An early Rolex “Disco Volante” reference 2947, dating to the first half of the 1930s with a serial in the 032XXX range.
Housed in a full steel 32mm case, a great size for the era.
Spring bars are not fixed.
This watch presents entirely as found.
The dial shows heavy age and spotting throughout and may have been previously touched or refinished.
It is nearing 100 years old and wears / presents accordingly.
Powered by a 15 jewel manual wind Rolex movement, keeping time running at time of listing.
The caseback carries a military engraved inscription, and the watch was acquired directly from the family of the original owner. It is accompanied by documented provenance supporting this history.
Comparable examples are extremely limited.
One surfaced at an Antiquorum auction in 1990 and another appeared more recently with a US dealer, which had a replaced dial and a movement sourced from a Viceroy of the same era.
Found as is and sold exactly as it was found.
