An exceptional early Rolex Oyster in solid 9ct rose gold, retailed and double signed by Bucherer’s, one of the most respected Rolex retailers of the period.
This piece dates to circa 1932, period-correct Rolex Prima manual wind movement. The exterior case serial has worn over time and is now partially rubbed with the only the first few numbers visible "2XXXXX" , the remaining visible digits, all align with early 1930s production.
What truly separates this watch is its remarkable provenance. The caseback is engraved “J.E. Cahill – Souvenir from Cyril & Grace – 1939 – Tamworth”, linking the watch to the Cahill family of New South Wales. Included with the watch is extensive accompanying research documenting the family history, military service and political connections.
The recipient, James Edward Cahill, later served in the Australian Army during World War II, while Cyril Joseph Cahill was a noted New South Wales parliamentarian.
The watch itself presents beautifully with a warm aged original dial, elegant oversized Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds and a beautifully proportioned octagonal Oyster case. The manually wound Rolex Prima movement is running well.
A rare and deeply personal survivor from the early Oyster era, offered complete with its provenance.
